The American College of Surgeons (ACS) new video, "Driven," explores how surgeon leaders and other innovators throughout the past century have inspired quality by advancing the care of surgical patients and how that drive for improving quality remains a force for surgeons today.
The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) has continued to cut holes in the throats, chests and limbs of live pigs during trauma-training exercises for the Australian Defence Force, despite the availability of modern simulators. A group of costumed PETA “pigs” also descended on the RACS Conference at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre to protest this cruelty. Watch the scene outside the conference, where attendees and passers-by came face-to-snout with our “pigs”. Get active for animals in our Action Centre: http://peta.org.au/action. News clips of the prosecution of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) by the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) in 1985 for causing cruelty to monkeys. This prosecution was based on evidence gathered during the raid by sixty activists from the South East Animal Liberation League on the RCS Buckston Browne farm research premises at Downe, Kent on Sunday August 26th 1984 and passed to the BUAV by Mike Huskisson (founder of the Animal Cruelty Investigation Group). On Monday February 18th 1985 the RCS were convicted by Bromley Magistrates of causing unnecessary suffering to Mone, a 10-year-old Macaque monkey found severely dehydrated after temperatures in her cage soared to 92F. They were fined £250. They appealed to Croydon Crown Court and their appeal was dismissed. They th...
Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons is a professional qualification to practise as a senior surgeon in Ireland or the United Kingdom. It is bestowed by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, though strictly the unqualified initials refer to the London College. Several Commonwealth countries have similar qualifications, among them the FRCSC in Canada, FRACS in Australia and New Zealand, FCS(SA) in South Africa, FCSHK in Hong Kong. The original fellowship was available in general surgery and in certain specialties—ophthalmic or ENT surgery, or obstetrics and gynaecology—which were not indicated in the initials. It came to be taken mid-way through t...

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has launched the Inspiring Quality initiative, because we believe that quality health care programs offer the best chance to transform our health care system into one that expands access to care, improves outcomes, and slows the accelerating cost curve. Quite simply, improving quality leads to fewer complications, and that translates into better outcomes and greater access for patients, as well as lower costs. This video exemplifies our belief that by working together with health care leaders around the nation, the ACS, through its quality programs, will continue to have a tremendous impact on improving care and leading our health care system in the right direction. By choosing a surgeon who is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons - identifiable by the use of (FRACS) after their name, you are choosing a surgeon who has achieved the highest standard of surgical training in Australia and New Zealand.
This video doesn't load quickly for some reason. I'll delete it if it doesn't load better today. A blatant attempt to get MY MUSIC out into the ETHER. "Home by Eleven" is an eleven four instrumental I wrote as an exercise. The slide show is from ICS Surgery Museum in Chicago.
